Russian ships to take part in 2012 RIMPAC exercise
The ships of Russia’s Navy will take part in the 2012 RIMPAC (the Rim of the Pacific Exercise), the world's largest international maritime exercise.
This year it will be held from June 29 to August 7 in the near the coasts of Hawaii. Earlier Russia only sent its monitors to these exercises.
In particular, Russia’s Bystry destroyer, a rescue tugboat and a tanker are to take part in the exercise.
The RIMPAC 2102 will involve ships of Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Canada, Japan and other countries.
In total 6 submarines, 39 ships, up to 200 aircraft and about 1,200 marines will be involved in the exercise.
