Partnership with Turkey for Bahrain programme

By: Richard Scott Published: 11 Sep 2013

BMT Nigel Gee (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group (Stand S4-160), has revealed details of its latest partnership with Turkey’s Ares Shipyard to design and build six 18m composite patrol boats for the Bahrain Coast Guard.

Sea trials for the first of class are expected to take place at the end of this month.

The current six-boat contract includes an option for a further six craft.

BMT has taken responsibility for the full detailed design including hull form optimisation, structural design and machinery layout. Its team of naval architects has worked closely with the shipyard to develop a design that meets the customer’s objective of an operationally effective highspeed craft (over 35kts maximum speed) which at the same time offers excellent habitability below decks.

BMT Nigel Gee managing director John Bonafoux said: “We are pleased to be supporting Ares Shipyard with the design of this highperformance patrol boat, which yet again demonstrates our expertise in specialist vessel design.”
