USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), US Navy’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, participated in an underway engagement with Turkish naval Forces Dec. 28.
During the engagement, Donald Cook conducted several surface force exercises with the Yavuv-class frigate TCG Fatih (F-242), with each vessel using their shipboard capabilities to achieve specific training objectives.
Lt. Matthew Brown, Donald Cook’s operations officer, said:
The goal of the exercise was to test Donald Cook’s and Fatih’s ability to work together and communicate effectively, as well as improve overall situational awareness, ensuring stability in the region. Donald Cook’s participation in this combined underway tactical exchange with Turkey helps the United States continue its efforts to strengthen maritime partnerships in the region.
The evolution included division tactics, focusing on the ship’s maneuvering in tandem together. Afterwards, Donald Cook rendered honors to Fatih in appreciation of a successful engagement.
USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is on a routine patrol conducting naval operations with allies and partners in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in order to advance security and stability in Europe.
