ECA Group, a French company renowned for its expertise in robotics, automated systems, simulation and industrial processes, announced it has succeeded a Factory Acceptance Test for two main switchboards. According to the company "this equipment is designed to be installed on board Midget submarines manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), in South Korea."
ECA Group had a pleasure to welcome 3 representatives from KTE (manufacturer for electric sub assemblies of ships) the Korean customer. They have checked and validated the design of the main switchboards, which features a high level of integration and a high accessibility of various components within the panels.
A member of HHI has joined the team for the last two days and approved the equipment.
Navy Recognition's comment:
These two switchboards are likely intended for the new HDS-400 mini-submarine by HHI.
According to various sources, HHI started construction of a new type of small submarine called HDS-400 this summer. The Submarine is reported to be based on the HDS series platform designed for small submarine. Measuring about 40 meters in length, with a width of 4.5 meters and 400 tons surface displacement the HDS-400 is fitted with an X rudder. The maximum speed surfaces if 15 knots (20 knots underwater) while cruising speed is 7 knots. Dive depth is reported to be 250 meters, Despite its compact size, HDS-400 has an endurance of 21 days and range of 2000 nautical miles. The submarine is said to be fitted with wet and dry compartments.
According to HHI early statements on the HDS series specifications, HDS mini submarines can be equipped with two 533 mm caliber heavy torpedoes and four 324 mm caliber lightweight torpedo, or carrying 14 Special Forces personnel (excluding the crew).
It is reported that South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries submarine is based on the HDS series platform designed for small submarine, streamline design and the use of X-shaped tail, about 40 meters,
Width of 4.5 meters, 400 tons surface displacement, maximum water speed 15, the maximum underwater speed 20 knots cruising speed 7, dive depth 250 meters,
Endurance 21 days or 2000 nautical miles, Submarine and a small wet and dry compartments.
In addition to the HDS-400 submarine, the HDS series also includes the HDS-500, HDS-1800 and HDS-3000 (displacing 500 tons, 1800 tons and 3300-ton submarines respectively).
