According Israeli newspaper website The Jerusalem Post, Azerbaijan has signed a contract with Israel to purchase the Iron Dome air defense system. The Iron Dome is in service with the Israeli Defense Forces since 2011, it successfully intercepted several Grad Rockets that were fired from the Gaza Strip at Southern Israel.
The Azerbaijani Press Agency reported on Saturday that Azerbaijan Defense Industry Minister Yaver Jamalov told reporters that the central Asian country reached an agreement with Israel to purchase the anti-missile batteries.
Azerbaijan will be the first foreign customer for the Israeli-made Iron Dome. Other countries as South Korea, Singapore and India have showed interest to purchase the Israeli air defense system.
Last week, after meeting with Netanyahu, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev revealed that his country has signed $5 billion worth of long-term contracts over the years to buy weapons and security equipment from Israel.
